Fish Collection Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue
Roses are red. Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet. And so are you.
That's the modern version. The ROSES ARE RED VIOLETS ARE BLUE Fish Friend collection is named after a very old rhyme which, through the years has taken on many different corruptions and versions of the original. The origin is thought to be as far back as Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queene of 1590 which goes:
It was upon a Sommers shynie day, When Titan faire his beames did display, In a fresh fountaine, farre from all mens vew, She bath'd her brest, the boyling heat t'allay; She bath'd with roses red, and violets blue, And all the sweetest flowres, that in the forrest grew.
The modern versions is very similar to a version found in the book Gammer Gurton's Garland of 1784-
The rose is red, the violet's blue, The honey's sweet, and so are you. Thou are my love and I am thine; I drew thee to my Valentine: The lot was cast and then Idrew, And fortune said it shou'd be you.
This very romantic collection of Fish Friends would make a brilliant gift for your loved one or for yourself to represent how much you love yourself.
